Shifting Lands
The Shifting Lands encompass all known space surrounding and extending from Luxtia since The Shattering. Far from the protection of the Cirrolite Core, the æther is extremely unpredictable and disrupted, causing rapid and chaotic physical changes. The further from the Cirrolite Core, the more frequent and intense these changes can be.
The Cirrolite Core is very slowly weakening over time, causing the Shifting Lands to "grow".
Despite the threats looming there, fae occasionally explore the Shifting Lands in search for resources that may have accumulated through its spontaneous changes. These fae, called excavators, are specially trained to adapt quickly to the hostile terrain.
Weather
The level of chaos in the Shifting Lands varies in a seemingly random manner. fae can predict changes within up to a few minutes using various technologies.
Spheres
The Shifting Lands can be divided into regions.
Aerosphere
Immediately outside of Luxtia, the inner Aerosphere is, while dangerous, still momentarily livable for fae. Excavators explore this region for rare resources.
During calm weather, the Aerosphere is very similar to Luxtia. Changes in temperature and pressure are random but nonetheless manageable.
However, intense weather can cause even fatal injuries. Lacerations are incredibly common. Matter can move upward into unstable temporary structures sometimes taller than a fae.
Pachysphere
The Pachysphere is the point at which matter cannot physically pass through by any known means. A pale, thin "fog" of strange and unknown matter fills this space. This matter grows more dense with distance. Near the Aerosphere, the ground is still mostly present, though its surface is "softer"", blending into the fog of matter; this increases with distance as well.
Much of this fog, especially further out, is hot enough to glow, bathing Luxtia in pleasant warmth and light. This light is more yellow in the north, cyan in the west, magenta in the east, and purple in the south. It is brightest and warmest in the northwest, and darkest and coldest in the southeast.
This region is also visible above Luxtia as well, though it produces a much more neutral white light. It is believed to extend below Luxtia too, though it is unknown how it appears.
The aerogel-like matter inside the Pachysphere slowly and gradually changes with time, though it may also change much more abruptly, causing "fractures" to form in the sky, in events caused skyquakes.
The border of the Pachysphere fluctuates slightly and may vary in "softness"; it may abruptly stop at Stage 1 at one point and gradually dissolve into it at another.
Exfae reportedly appear within the Pachysphere, near the border of the Aerosphere.
Neosphere
The Neosphere is a hypothetical stage at which all physical processes become incomprehensible. Matter is believed to spontaneously generate and destroy in the extreme exergy, perhaps visually resembling nuclear pasta. It is considered the prelude to New Existence.
This is only hypothetical, however, since the "fog" of the Pachysphere becomes too dense for electromagnetic waves to penetrate.
