Titan is the southernmost establishment in Saturn, located in Serra.

Geography

Titan is in a heavily forested part of eastern Serra. It is the furthest from Skygrazer and thus the center of Luxtia, meaning that it is in immediate risk of collapsing from the slowly encroaching Shifting Lands. It is expected to start collapsing in about 100 years.

The area around Titan is densely forested but relatively flat. The paths and pastures outside the citadel and town are abandoned and overgrown.

Citadel

Before it was rendered it inoperable, Titan's citadel specialized in biological science. Now, it's occupied mostly by heavily-poisoned fae.

History

Metamutagen

Before the events of The New Low, Titan experimented with creating and manipulating artificial sparks. Metamutagen was developed as a high conductor of exergy, which scientists used in experiments, often as a working fluid.

Disaster

This should be summarized.

About one year before the events of The New Low, while Tala worked at Titan, a fire broke out in the first floor, the cause of which is currently unknown. The fire shortly lead to major storage tanks to burst, releasing metamutagen into the storage room.

Firefighters arrived while citizens were still evacuating. At the time, metamutagen was still rather unknown, so the firefighters were not properly equipped or trained for handling the substance. They extinguished the fire with water, which quickly absorbed the exposed metamutagen. The aqueous solution spread quickly, poisoning over a hundred employees, residents, and firefighters.

Titan was evacuated. A survey the following day found that the metamutagen had already seeped into the soil around the citadel. The building itself was deemed too dangerous to enter. Furthermore, it rained that day, spreading contamination.

Within a week, the citadel, its surrounding city and farms, and the entire region downstream were declared an exclusion zone due to the contamination. The public by now were aware of the disaster. The press called this substance "metamutagen", which stuck.

Currently, some poisoned spark-less fae, dubbed "mutants" inhabit the citadel. Though far more feral and animalistic, they pose no greater risk to the rest of Luxtia. Fae are however prohibited from entering the exclusion zone.
