Rudi is an adult fae who has been poisoned by metamutagen. Despite this, his spark remains mostly intact, as it was prior to the poisoning.

Rudi is a short-legged grey, red, and cream-white wolf with excessive fur and quills covering his body.

As a result of metamutagen poisoning, Rudi's spark is slightly weaker. He is depressed, feeble, and undetermined, especially compared to his former self. He is mentally unwell due mostly to his solitude within the citadel.

Backstory

Rudi was a scientist at Titan who worked on a number of projects that involved metamutagen. He was close friends with one of his coworkers, Tala. He was tempted to follow Tala to Dione to study psychology, but he decided against it.

During the metamutagen spill, Rudi was poisoned. By miracle, one of the outer "layers" of his spark resisted metamutagen; his spark was damaged far less than typical. His body was still mutated, however. He became bulky and more rigid, his tail shortened, his spine hunched, and his fur became longer, thicker, and heavier. Sharp quills grew from him as well, interspersed within his entire pelt. He experienced chronic pain as well throughout his body, comparable to arthritis.

Rudi felt sick for about a week as a result of the poisoning. When he recovered enough, he tried to leave Titan. When he encountered the under-construction wall, the guards there fired at him, believing him to be like any other mutant. Terrified and traumatized, he fled back to Titan.

He spent several months, nearly a year, in his former lab, fearing the outside. To occupy his time, he continued researching metamutagen and its effects on mutants as well as himself.

He realized that ingesting metamutagen couldn't harm his spark any more (due to its outermost resilient layer). He found that it interfered with some of his short term memories, helping him pass the time. He also found that it relieved the pain he otherwise constantly felt throughout his body.

However, he also tested on other metamutants around him. At first, these tests were attempts to restore their sparks or reverse the damage of metamutagen poisoning. He attempted to study the bodies of metamutagens who passed; he was not trained to do autopsy, so his attempts were lackluster.

He began researching more vigorously on living metamutants as he became more apathetic towards them. He tested their skeletal strength through blunt force, tried feeding them otherwise inedible material, performed amputations on mutated parts, injected various pathogens into them, and even attempted a few vivisections.

The New Low

In The New Low, Tala reunites with Rudi in Titan. Rudi asks her to publish his research, which she is initially reluctant to do due to the nature of the later experiments.
